After much deliberation over an exquisite set of 102 submissions from 33 publishers worldwide (as well as one self-published author inspired to write by the Prize itself), the Adjudicating Committee has decided on a Short List of seven books:

  • Josephine Balmer, The Paths of Survival  (Shearsman Books)
  • Daniel Mendelsohn: An Odyssey: a Father, a Son and an Epic  (Harper Collins)
  • Yopie Prins, Ladies’ Greek: Victorian Translations of Tragedy  (Princeton University Press)
  • Kamila Shamsie, Home Fire  (Bloomsbury)
  • Colm Toibin, House of Names  (Viking)
  • David Vann, Bright Air Black  (Windmill Books)
  • Emily Wilson (trans.), The Odyssey  (W. W. Norton)

A winner will be announced in early July, as will the Longer List which comprises the most notable books in English on a Greek subject published last year.
