The 2012 Prize

For the 2012 competition, we received 139 eligible publications from publishers and individuals as far afield as Los Angeles and Sydney (viewable here).

Of these, the Adjudicating Committee chose sixteen to form the Long List as the ‘top 10%’ of all the 2012 publications we received. From these books, six were selected to form the Short List.

After the perennial heated debate at the Hellenic Centre, the Adjudicating Committee decided to award the 2012 Criticos Prize to Anne Carson for her Antigonick published by New Directions (New York) and Bloodaxe Books (UK).

The play was performed by Carson and friends last November at the Athenaeum, Pall Mall, in the presence of representatives from the Greek Embassy and Canadian High Commission and many other dignitaries and friends of the Prize.
