Paul Cartledge
Professor Paul Cartledge is the A.G. Leventis Senior Research Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, and the emeritus A.G. Leventis Professor of Greek Culture (2008-2014) in the Faculty of Classics, University of Cambridge.
He was educated at St Paul's School, London (Foundation Scholar), and New College, Oxford (Ella Stephens Open Scholar), and was Craven Fellow, University of Oxford, and Harold Salvesen Junior (Research) Fellow, University College, Oxford.
He holds the degrees of MA, DPhil. (Oxon), PhD (Cantab), MA (Trinity College Dublin), and Honorary PhD (Economics) of the University of Thessaly at Volos, Greece. He taught at the New University of Ulster, Trinity College Dublin, the University of Warwick, and the University of Cambridge. He has written, cowritten, edited and co-edited over 25 books in the broad field of ancient Greek history.
He was co-founder and co-editor of a Duckworth/Bloomsbury monograph series, and is co-founder and co-editor of a Cambridge University Press monograph series, and advisory editor to three learned journals.
He is an Honorary Citizen of (modern) Sparta, and holds the Gold Cross of the Order of Honour awarded by the President of the Hellenic Republic. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London, and of the Royal Society of Arts.
